Kay Russell was recruited by and started her 25-year hospitality career at the Twin Bridges Marriott in Washington, D.C. Kay knew immediately that this business was the perfect fit for her. Kay graduated from the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C. with a B.B.A. in Marketing.

She worked for the Greater Minneapolis Convention & Visitors Association (GMCVA) for five years, then moved back to Washington, D.C. as a senior sales manager for the Grand Hyatt and later, director of sales for Hilton National Sales. After working as an account executive for the Washington, D.C. office of the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau, she “returned” to Minneapolis for her current position, in 1999 – this time as a national account executive in GMCVA’s Washington, D.C. office.

MINNEAPOLIS

Vibrant. Beautiful. Cosmopolitan. Minneapolis is successful meetings – 5,000 downtown committable hotel rooms (4,500 within walking distance of Minneapolis Convention Center), top-notch shopping and entertainment options create a cultural epicenter and seven miles of climate-controlled skyway connect it all.

Getting here is a snap, since Minneapolis is home to Northwest Airlines, attendees can step on a plane in most U.S. cities and be in Minneapolis in less than three hours.

And getting around Minneapolis is a breeze with the Hiawatha Light Rail. The train stops at 17 rail stations between the entertainment-packed Warehouse District in downtown Minneapolis and the shopper’s paradise — Mall of America in Bloomington. Riders can dine downtown, shop at the Mall and visit numerous attractions along the Hiawatha Line, such as Fort Snelling and the H.H.H. Metrodome. After all this riders can hop back on and ride to MSP International Airport.

Flexible. Convenient. Technologically-advanced. Blending form and function, the Minneapolis Convention Center boasts nearly 1.4 million square feet of exhibit space, a 28,000 square-foot ballroom, 87 meeting rooms and a state-of-the-art 3,400-seat auditorium. Each space has its own presentation stage and features cutting-edge technology, including laptop computer user-friendly seats with table arms and individual data and power ports; front and rear projection screens; wiring for digitized video; satellite link capabilities; fiber optics; and easy Internet access, ISDN lines and T1 lines.

Two years. Five new or expanded alternative meeting spaces. Discover the Minneapolis arts explosion. The Minneapolis cultural landscape – already rich with museums, theater and other cultural trappings – is experiencing an arts explosion. This unprecedented growth is driven by several critically acclaimed arts organizations that have commissioned internationally recognized architects to design their buildings and meeting spaces in the span of just two years.
