HISTORY

On October 1, 1999, seven African American women who work for Satellite Offices of various Convention and Visitors Bureaus in the Washington DC area, came together to discuss the formation of a group for women of color in the hospitality industry. The purpose of this group would be to network, exchange ideas and to generate business with meeting planners of color. Herein started what is now known as Just Because.

Founding Members are Tiffany Chester formerly of the Dallas CVB, Ramona Crawford formerly of the Cincinnati CVB, Donna Glover from the New Orleans CVB, Laurie Nelson - Choice formerly of the Columbus CVB - now representing VISIT Milwaukee, Kay Russell formerly of the Detroit CVB - now representing the Greater Minneapolis CVA, Lavette Stubbs formerly of the Los Angeles CVB and Synethia Thompson formerly of the New York City CVB.

Just Because organizes networking functions including monthly educational programs, an annual networking reception and several unique client events throughout the year. These functions provide opportunities to build relationships that result in increased business opportunities, as well as the exchange of information and ideas, ongoing education about our industry and empowerment in a professional setting.
